Cleaner Coastlines: Weston and North Somerset plastic-free campaign & Friends of Grove Park with The Climate Coalition

Global Pride
June 2020

In June 2020 a FOGP volunteer suggested showing our support for Global Pride.
The local community consisting of regular and new volunteers, from age 4 to 70something, helped with painting carnival headdresses onto wooden boards, which were then displayed around Grove Park's bandstand.
The intention was for people to enjoy the artworks and interact with them, by sitting in front,
so that the headdress appeared behind their head.
An area of fencing infront of the re-wilding area, was painted the colours of the rainbow.
Materials were donated by WSM Wilko's, B&Q and Somerset Wood Recycling

A Rose to Remember September  Sept - Nov 2021

A Rose to Remeber: This project was the idea of one of our volunteers. Local Residents were invited to the park to plant rose bushes to honour loved ones they had lost.  Every rose bush has a small plaque with a dedication. This was a popular session and Friends of Grove Park will be inviting more members of the community to plant more roses very soon.  We hope the rose bushes will bring pleasure and comfort as they bloom and grow.

Veg Beds 2021

Supported by Incredible Edible and Somerset Community Foods, our community Veg Beds are organised by our amazing volunteer Pauline. Every Tuesday from 1.30pm members of the local community met, grew and harvested veg. This project will start again in April 2022.
Mini Gardens 2021
Mini Gardens are funded by Avon Garden's Trust. Mini Garden's is a free gardening session for children to use their creativity to design and build gardens. The gardens are displayed in the play park at the top of the park and they look fantastic. Opportunities to build gardens are advertised throughout the year on our Facebook page. We have had some inspired designs, many of which are displayed in our notice board in the play park.

Halloween Fun Nov 2021

Halloween Fun was a free activity for families. We used bamboo canes, sticks, palm leaves and scrapstore resources to make wands, spiders webs and broom sticks. We also foraged in our Edibles bed for potion ingredients. We had some fantastic creations and lots of spooky fun was had by all.

'In the Park' days 2021

'In the Park' ; FOGP set up stalls selling rescue plants. We provided lots of scavenger hunts and games for families. There was rock painting, giant chalking and we got the chance to talk to lots of lovely people about volunteering.
